Golan Heights - The Golan Heights is a low "mountain range" that runs along the east of the Sea of Galilee and runs north to Mount Hermon. It is really a high plateau of volcanic rock. In the Old Testament this area is known as Bashan cf. Deuteronomy 3:11.. There is also a city named Golan which was a city of refuge and it was located on this "mountain range".
Syrian bunkers can still be seen on the Golan Heights. In 1982 this area was declared a part of Israel. See Deuteronomy 4:41-43; Joshua 20:8, 21:27; Mark 5:1-21.
